We manage our own properties, and none of the individual jobs ever felt particularly hard. Renew a certificate, sort out a repair, check the rent came in, find a document, visit a property.

Keeping track of all of it was the hard part. Our information ended up where you’d probably expect: a spreadsheet, a few folders, calendar reminders, emails and a tenant’s message sitting in WhatsApp. Each made sense on its own. Together they left that background feeling that something, somewhere, had been forgotten.

We wanted one place that worked the way we actually manage our properties.

Not a big property-management system built for letting agencies, and not a spreadsheet with nicer buttons. Somewhere we could open and quickly answer:

• What needs dealing with, and what can wait?
• Where’s the certificate we need?
• What did we find the last time we visited?
• Has that repair been sorted?
• Did the rent arrive?

The paperwork is only part of managing a property.

Keeping certificates and dates in order matters. But so does keeping a proper record of what’s actually happening at the property: the checks you’ve done, the repairs your tenants have reported, the photos you took and the things still to deal with. We wanted those to live together too.

So we built RenteRoo and used it on our own properties first.

We started with the jobs that were creating the most admin for us, and only then began putting RenteRoo in front of other landlords who manage their own properties. We’re still early, and that’s deliberate: we’d rather build around how landlords really work than guess at a hundred features nobody needs. The landlords using RenteRoo now will have a real say in what it becomes.
